Several spells of showers expected in most areas today

Several spells of showers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and North-Western provinces today, the Department of Meteorology said this morning. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Eastern and Uva provinces after 2.00p.m Fairly strong winds about 50 kmph can be expected in the?Southern province and Bibile area. There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.

Sri Lanka third on list of?foreign diaspora in Coimbatore

Sri Lanka has come third on the list of?foreign diaspora in Coimbatore in India, according to The Hindu newspaper. Iranians have topped the list. As per statistics provided by the City Police, 75 Iranians are residing in Coimbatore as on May 31, of which 73 are students pursuing various courses in educational institutions. Security beefed up at Sri Lankan refugee camp in India

Police have strengthened security at the Pooluvapatti Sri Lankan refugee camp in Coimbatore, India following a clash between members of the camp and a Hindu outfit on Saturday, The Hindu newspaper reported. Coimbatore District (Rural) police have arrested four persons in connection with the incident.
