Over 240,000 affected in Kalutara as salt water seeps into river

Over 240,000 people have been affected in the Kalutara District after salt water seeped into the Kalu Ganga river, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said today. The DMC said that salt water intrusion into the river has so far affected 244,065 people. This includes residents in Kalutara, Beruwala, Mathugama, Panadura, Agalawatta, Madurawela, Palindanuwara, Millaniya, Horana and Dodangoda. Nalaka de Silva further remanded over plot to kill President

Former Terrorist Investigations Division (TID) DIG Nalaka de Silva was today ordered to be further remanded till April 23rd. Nalaka de Silva has been in remand over the alleged plot to kill the President. The Criminal Investigations Department told court earlier this year that there was evidence to prove Nalaka de Silva was linked to the alleged plot to kill President Maithripala Sirisena and former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Court orders protection for Namal Kumara

The Police has been ordered to give protection to informant and activist Namal Kumara under the Victims and Witness Protection Act. The order was issued by the Colombo Fort Magistrate?s Court today following a request made by Namal Kumara’s lawyers. Namal Kumara had sought protection as he was the main informant in the plot to kill President Maithripala Sirisena and other VIPs. (Colombo Gazette)
