Speaker to obtain legal advise on case against COPE

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya told Parliament today he will obtain legal advise on the case filed in the Supreme Court on the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE). COPE member Bimal Ratnayake said that COPE members have received details of the case filed against COPE on the treasury bond issue. Ratnayake said that court cannot put pressure on COPE since COPE is a Parliament body. However he said COPE members are not scared of going before court to make statements on the issue. President appoints commission to investigate bond issue

President Maithripala Sirisena has appointed a three member committee to investigate the Central Bank treasury bond issue. The President’s office said that Supreme Court Judge K.T. Chithrasiri, P.S.
