Court allows TID to grill Wellampitiya copper factory worker

The Terrorist Investigations Division (TID) has been granted approval by court to question a worker of a factory in Wellampitiya. Karupayya Rajendran Abdulla is currently in remand over the Easter Sunday attacks. The TID had sought court approval to record a statement from Rajendran Abdulla and approval was granted. Karupayya Rajendran Abdulla was among ten suspects arrested over the bombings but nine were later released on bail.

CC approves Senior DIG Wickramaratne as acting IGP

The Constitutional Council (CC) which met today has approved the appointment of Senior Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police C. D. Wickramaratne as the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP). C. D. Wickramaratne was appointed to the post by President Maithripala Sirisena. The President had earlier demanded the resignation of IGP Pujith Jayasundara after accusing him and the former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando of failing in their duties prior to the Easter Sunday bombings. Police impose curfew in more areas in Kurunegala

The Police imposed curfew in more areas in the Kurunegala District today as tensions rose between communities in the area. The Police said that curfew has been imposed in the Rasnayakapura and Kobeigane areas in Kurunegala with immediate effect. The curfew has been imposed till 4am tomorrow. Earlier, a Police curfew had been re-imposed in the Kuliyapitiya, Bingiriya, Dummalasuriya and Hettipola areas with immediate effect till 4am tomorrow.
