Swiss Embassy employee released on bail

A Swiss Embassy employee who was arrested and remanded after she claimed she was kidnapped and released, was granted bail today. The employee was arrested on 16 December on the grounds of falsifying evidence. The local employee was produced before a Magistrate and remanded till today. The Criminal Investigations Department had been instructed to name and arrest the Swiss embassy employee and produce her before courts for falsifying evidence.

Army Chief to serve as acting Chief of Defence Staff

Army Commander, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, has been appointed as acting Chief of Defence Staff, effective from 1 January 2020. This will be in addition to his present office of the Commander of the Army. The appointment has been made by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Ravindra C Gunaratne retired from service on 31 December 2019.

Rajitha Senaratne granted bail

Former Minister Rajitha Senaratne, who was arrested and kept under detention at a private hospital, was granted bail today. A Magistrate had visited the hospital last week to inspect the condition of the former Minister and ordered that he be remanded till today. The Colombo Magistrate granted bail to the MP when the case was heard today. Prison officials had yesterday visited the private hospital to transfer Senaratne to the prison hospital but suspended the move as Senaratne was in poor hea
