SLPP CMC member arrested over CPC incident

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Colombo Municipal Council member K. G. Kulathissa was arrested today over his involvement in the unrest at the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) premises in October.

Kulathissa was accused of preventing Minister Arjuna Ranatunga from performing his duties at the time at the CPC office.

A tense situation arose at the CPC office in October when some employees and others attempting to assault?Ranatunga.

Ranatunga?s security guard opened fire injuring at least two people.

One person succumbed to his injuries in hospital later.

Kulathissa was produced in court and remanded till January 11th.?(Colombo Gazette)

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena today (19) endorsed the certificate on the Inland Revenue (Amendment) Bill which was passed by a majority of votes following a debate in Parliament. Boat with over 100 Rohingya migrants detained in Sri Lanka

A boat carrying over 100 Rohingya illegal migrants has been detained in Sri Lankan waters. The boat was reportedly heading to a foreign county when it drifted into Sri Lankan waters. The boat was detected in the northern waters by local fishermen. The fishermen had alerted the Sri Lanka Navy who rushed to the area and detained the boat. (Colombo Gazette)
