Former President Maithripala Sirisena and former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe have been summoned before the Presidential Commission investigating the Easter Sunday attacks next month. 20th Amendment challenged in court

A petition was filed at the Supreme Court today challenging the 20th Amendment to the Constitution. The petition was filed by a lawyer calling for a referendum to pass the Amendment. The 20th Amendment to the Constitution was tabled in Parliament by Minister of Justice Ali Sabry today. The opposition staged a protest in Parliament against the move. (Colombo Gazette)

Historic Kataragama temple gets new Basnayake Nilame

The historic Kataragama temple (Kataragama Devalaya) has got a new Basnayake Nilame. Dishan Wickramaratne Gunasekara was elected as the new Basnayake Nilame of the Kataragama Devalaya. Gunasekara was elected to the post unanimously. The election was to be held on August 14 but it was later postponed for today. (Colombo Gazette)
