Tax to be imposed on abandoned lands in Western Province

A tax is to be imposed on abandoned lands in the Western Province, the Chief Minister of the Western Province Isura Devapriya said.

He said a 2 percent tax on the land value will be imposed according to the local Government ordinance.

The tax is being imposed as part of measures to curb the spread of dengue. (Colombo Gazette)

Convict acquitted in Rajiv assassination case dies before returning to Sri Lanka

Santhan, a Sri Lankan convict in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, succumbed to his illness at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai. Several SriLankan Airlines flights disrupted

Several SriLankan Airlines flights scheduled to leave from the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake on Tuesday (27th) were disrupted. According to reports, at least 10 flights were either delayed or cancelled. The flights included those operating to?India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, the Maldives, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, the UAE and Kuwai.
