Army, police used schools during war – Report

A new report released today says both the army and police used schools during the war against the LTTE. Between January 2005 and October 2012, the study found, armed forces and armed groups used education institutions in at least 24 countries, a substantial majority of the countries with armed conflicts during this period. Police bust major heroin ring

The police said they had busted a major heroin ring operating in Sri Lanka with the arrest of two most wanted heroin dealers. Police spokesman SSP Priyashantha Jayakody said that heroin hidden in 222 water pumps smuggled from Pakistan were also recovered. The police said that Samantha Kumara alias Welle Suda and?Mohammad?Hakeem were arrested together with 35 kilograms of heroin. The arrest was made following a sting operation carried out over the past few days by a special police team. SSP J
