Singaporean arrested with money hidden in baggage

A Singaporean national was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) with large amounts of money.

The 47 year old was?arrested by the customs staff at the departure lounge this afternoon with US$ 37,000, Euro 42,000, Sterling Pound 27,000 and Sri Lanka Rupees 4,500,000.00, valued at Rs. 22,277,220.00 concealed in his baggage.

He had attempted to smuggle the money out to Singapore. Further investigations are underway. (Colombo Gazette)

Tsunami alert on Sri Lanka following Sumatra quake withdrawn

A tsunami alert which was issued for Sri Lanka following an earthquake off Sumatra was withdrawn and all coastal areas were declared safe.
