Shiranthi Rajapaksa makes statement to FCID

Former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa appeared?before officers of the police Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID) today and made a statement, Mrs.?Rajapaksa’s?spokesperson said.

Shiranthi Rajapaksa had been asked to appear before the FCID to be questioned on the Carlton Siriliya Saviya project.

Reports said that?Mrs. Rajapaksa was accompanied by her husband, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, when she left to meet FCID officers this morning.

Anoma Weliwita, Media Co-ordinating Officer to the former First Lady said that when?Mrs. Rajapaksa was on her way to the FCID she was informed of a large crowd outside the FCID office.

As a result?Mrs. Rajapaksa met FCID officers at another location and made a statement and then left.

Weliwita had said earlier that Mrs. Rajapaksa?never got involved in politics and instead focused her time on humanitarian work, mostly involving children.

Weliwita said that Mrs. Rajapaksa had obtained funds from overseas for her work and she did so in a transparent manner. (Colombo Gazette)
