Scheduled power interruptions will continue today, October 21, in four zones across Sri Lanka as authorities manage electricity demand.
The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) said each affected zone will face a one-hour power cut between 4.30 p.m. and 9.00 p.m.
PUCSL Director of Corporate Communications Jayanath Herath said the commission had approved the proposed outage schedule submitted by National System Operations (Private) Limited on October 19.
The cuts form part of measures being taken to balance electricity demand with available supply.
However, concerns have been raised over reports that some consumers have experienced outages lasting significantly longer than the announced one-hour period.
Electricity Consumers’ Association Chairman M.D.R. Athula said certain areas had faced power interruptions exceeding five hours, despite the official schedule limiting outages to one hour.
The reported longer outages have prompted questions over whether actual interruptions are being carried out in line with the approved schedule.
PUCSL has not, in the information provided, confirmed whether power cuts exceeding the announced duration occurred in the areas cited by the Electricity Consumers’ Association.
