Three civilians were killed and 36 others injured in Houthi-claimed attacks on two airports in Saudi Arabia, according to the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation.

Abha International Airport and King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh were targeted in separate attacks on Tuesday and Wednesday.

GACA said two women, one Moroccan and one Algerian, were killed in the attack on Abha International Airport. A further 28 people were injured.

At King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, a Sudanese national was killed and eight people were injured, including five Saudi citizens, according to the authority.

GACA said it was coordinating with relevant security agencies to assess damage and implement measures aimed at protecting passengers and airport workers.

Major-General Turki al-Maliki, spokesperson for the Saudi-led coalition, said coalition forces intercepted a ballistic missile north of Riyadh and destroyed a launch platform in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, which he said had been used to carry out attacks against the Saudi capital.

The latest incidents follow a series of reported attacks targeting infrastructure around Riyadh.

New protective fencing has recently been installed around fuel tanks and other equipment belonging to state-run energy company Saudi Aramco near King Khalid International Airport.

On September 18, the Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted and destroyed a suspected Houthi ballistic missile launched from Yemen towards the Riyadh airport.

The following day, at least one explosion was reported near the airport, while a large plume of black smoke was seen rising from a fuel storage area at King Khalid International Airport.

Authorities have continued assessing security risks around key transport and energy infrastructure following the attacks.
