City of Dreams Sri Lanka: Redesigning the Colombo Experience for a New Era of Tourism

City of Dreams Sri Lanka is positioning its Colombo complex as an integrated destination, bringing hotels, dining, shopping, entertainment, events and gaming together at one property.

The development includes the Cinnamon Life and NÜWA hotels, alongside The Shoppes at City of Dreams Sri Lanka. Its retail spaces bring fashion, jewellery, wellness, food and lifestyle businesses into the complex, giving guests places to visit beyond their hotels.

Event facilities are another part of the offering. The property has audiovisual and meeting spaces designed for conferences, corporate gatherings, exhibitions and entertainment productions. Visitors attending those events can also use the complex’s accommodation, restaurants and other facilities.

Michael Habashi, the resort’s general manager, described the project as a way to connect different experiences and businesses in one destination. He linked that approach to changing expectations among travellers and to Colombo’s potential as a place to spend time, rather than simply a starting point for journeys elsewhere in Sri Lanka.

Technology features in the property’s hospitality and event operations, including guest services across its two hotel brands, gaming systems and facilities for large gatherings. The group has also highlighted opportunities for Sri Lankan businesses to reach local and international visitors through its retail spaces.

The integrated format allows travellers to combine accommodation with dining, shopping and entertainment during a single stay. For event organisers, it places meeting facilities and hospitality services within the same development.

Colombo offers a different experience from the beaches, wildlife, heritage sites and hill-country destinations often associated with Sri Lankan tourism.
