Upholding Sri Lanka-Germany Economic Cooperation through Maritime, Logistics and Export Dialogue

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, in association with the  Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Sri Lanka (AHK Sri Lanka), convened a  sector-focused briefing on Maritime & Logistics and Imports & Exports under the theme  “Positioning Sri Lanka as a Competitive Maritime, Logistics and Export Hub: Opportunities  for German–Sri Lankan Business Cooperation” on 11th September 2026 at the Ministry  premises. 

The briefing was attended by Chief Delegate of AHK Sri Lanka, and representatives of AHK  Sri Lanka, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Sri Lanka Export Development  Board, Additional Director General (Development), and other representatives of the EDB, alongside high level officials from the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) and members of the  Maritime and Logistics, and Imports and Exports Sector Committees of AHK Sri Lanka. 

Delivering the opening remarks, Director General, Economic Affairs (Bilateral) of the  Ministry, highlighted the importance of further strengthening Sri Lanka-Germany economic  cooperation through enhanced trade, investment, technology cooperation and business  partnerships.  

The SLPA provided an overview of upcoming projects, investment opportunities and areas for  business engagement in the maritime and logistics sector, while the EDB presented Sri Lanka’s  export strategy and opportunities for collaboration with the German business community. 

The discussions also focused on Sri Lanka’s potential to strengthen its position as a competitive  maritime, logistics and export hub by leveraging its strategic location and strengthening  connectivity with international markets and global value chains. 

The briefing provided an opportunity to identify practical avenues for German-Sri Lankan  business linkages, investment partnerships and sectoral cooperation, while facilitating closer  engagement between relevant government institutions and the German business community.
