New U.S. Ambassador-designate to Sri Lanka, Eric Meyer, Meets Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Washington D.C.

The new United States Ambassador-designate to Sri Lanka, Eric Meyer, met the Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Washington D.C. on 20 August 2026 at the Embassy, prior to his departure for Sri Lanka.

The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on the longstanding and multifaceted relationship between Sri Lanka and the United States and to discuss priorities for further strengthening bilateral ties.

Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Washington D.C., Wickramarachchi,briefed Ambassador-designate Meyer on recent developments in Sri Lanka and the Embassy’s ongoing initiatives to further strengthen relations in the political, economic,defence, security and educational spheres.

Ambassador-designate Meyer appreciated the updates provided on Sri Lanka and reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with the Government of Sri Lanka to further advance the strong partnership between the two countries.

Museum suspects given bail

UK MPs to visit the north

A British parliament delegation, which began a one week visit to Sri Lanka today, will visit the north of the country tomorrow, British Parliamentarian Simon Danczuk, who is part of the delegation, told the Colombo Gazette. Boat with 70 people missing

A boat with at least 70 people is reported to have gone missing after it left Mirissa and was heading to Australia last week. The boat with mostly Tamils had left on July 17th and is believed to have faced engine trouble halfway through the journey, our reporter in the area said.
