Port City Colombo and OREL IT Forge Strategic Tech Partnership

Port City Colombo has signed a strategic partnership with OREL IT (Private) Limited to strengthen its technology services ecosystem, advancing its vision as a globally competitive financial and technology-driven hub.

Under the agreement, OREL IT will deliver customised technology solutions to Port City Colombo and companies registered under the Colombo Port City Economic Commission (CPCEC). Services include data centre solutions, cloud technologies, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and managed services, ensuring businesses within the SEZ have access to secure, reliable, and future-ready digital infrastructure.

Mr. Xiong Hongfeng, Managing Director of CHEC Port City Colombo, said, “Building a strong technology foundation is critical for a world-class business destination. Our partnership with OREL IT strengthens support for companies operating in the SEZ.”

Dr. Upendra Pieris, CEO of OREL IT, added, “This collaboration allows us to deliver enterprise-grade capabilities that enable companies within Port City Colombo to establish, scale, and thrive.”

The partnership also includes plans to develop a state-of-the-art data centre and joint marketing initiatives targeting local and international investors. Port City Colombo spans 269 hectares of reclaimed land adjacent to Colombo’s central business district, hosting 146 licensed companies, including 27 recognised as Businesses of Strategic Importance (BSI).

The collaboration reinforces Port City Colombo’s role as Sri Lanka’s premier international business destination, supporting innovation, investment, and long-term economic growth.
