Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation Life Ltd. (SLICLL) and Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation General Ltd. (SLICGI) extended support to families affected by the recent Ditwah cyclone through a special employee-led contribution raised across both organisations.
The voluntary contribution was formally handed over to Secretary to the Treasury Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma at the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development on 22 January 2025. The funds are intended to support national relief and recovery efforts for communities impacted by the cyclone.
The initiative reflects the shared values of compassion, responsibility, and national service embedded within Sri Lanka Insurance Life and Sri Lanka Insurance General. As state-owned insurers with a strong national presence, both entities continue to actively support disaster response efforts in collaboration with relevant authorities.
Commenting on the initiative, Sri Lanka Insurance Chairman Nusith Kumaaratunga said the contribution reflects the collective spirit and sense of responsibility within both organisations to stand with affected communities during times of national difficulty. He noted that, as state insurers, their role extends beyond insurance protection to making meaningful contributions to the country when it matters most.
In response to the Ditwah cyclone, Sri Lanka Insurance Life and Sri Lanka Insurance General also undertook additional relief initiatives, including the distribution of dry ration packs to affected families and an islandwide clean-up and restoration programme. These efforts complement their core mandate of providing financial protection while reinforcing their long-standing commitment to social responsibility and nation building.
