Visa And NDB Bank Launch Card Present Connect In Sri Lanka

Visa, a global leader in digital payments, in partnership with National Development Bank PLC (NDB Bank), has launched Card Present Connect (CPC), an in-person digital payment acceptance solution powered by Cybersource. Cybersource is Visa’s open payment platform that supports both online and offline transactions and is part of Visa Acceptance Solutions for businesses worldwide.

Through this collaboration, Visa extends a secure and reliable in-person payment solution to small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) in Sri Lanka, enabling faster, safer, and more efficient card-based transactions. The launch marks the first implementation of CPC in the Visa South Asia region.

The solution allows merchants to accept EMV chip, contactless, and mobile wallet payments through Android SmartPOS devices. Businesses benefit from lower setup costs, faster onboarding, enhanced security, and the ability to serve both local and international customers, helping them expand within increasingly cashless economies.

For acquiring banks, CPC delivers improved cost efficiency, faster time-to-market, and simplified deployment through Visa’s pre-integrated partner ecosystem. It removes the need to build and maintain complex in-house payment infrastructure while ensuring compliance and operational reliability.

Visa Country Manager for Sri Lanka and Maldives, Avanthi Colombage, said the partnership with NDB Bank introduces a breakthrough Cybersource solution that supports the growth of Sri Lankan businesses. She noted that CPC addresses the challenges of traditional POS systems by simplifying merchant onboarding, improving efficiency, and reducing infrastructure dependency, while enabling NDB Bank to expand from online to in-person payment acceptance.

NDB Senior Vice President, Personal Banking and Customer Experience, Sanjaya Perera, stated that the expansion into in-person digital payment acceptance strengthens support for local entrepreneurs and mid-market enterprises. He emphasized that the initiative delivers seamless, secure, and sustainable payment solutions that reduce costs, enhance customer experience, and promote financial inclusion and economic growth in Sri Lanka.
