EDB Charts Export-Led Growth Strategy Through 2030 Roadmap

The Export Development Board (EDB) convened the National Consultative Forum on the Strategic Export Development Roadmap 2026–2030 at its head office, uniting senior government officials to align policy, institutions, and strategy for Sri Lanka’s export-led economic transformation.

The EDB is formulating a National Export Development Plan to guide growth over the next five years, targeting $36 billion in export revenue by 2030. The forum aimed to raise awareness of the roadmap and secure cross-sector collaboration to meet national economic goals.

EDB Chairman and CEO Mangala Wijesinghe presented the roadmap, highlighting strategic priorities, sectoral focus, and institutional reforms required to strengthen the export ecosystem. He stressed the need for coordinated action between government and industry to enhance competitiveness, diversify markets, and increase value addition.

Central Bank Governor Dr. P. Nandalal Weerasinghe offered a macroeconomic perspective, noting export growth’s role in stabilising the economy, improving external balances, and supporting sustainable development. Contributions from Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Minister Sunil Handunnetti, Deputy Minister Chathuranga Abeysinghe, Digital Economy Deputy Minister Eng. Eranga Weeraratne, and Treasury Secretary Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma reinforced the importance of a whole-of-government approach to transform the national export ecosystem.

A key highlight was the launch of the Export Performance Indicator, a data-driven tool to support evidence-based decision-making, monitoring, and strategic planning across the public and private sectors.

The forum also promoted Sri Lanka Expo 2026, the country’s flagship international trade exhibition, scheduled from 18–21 June at BMICH, showcasing Sri Lanka’s export capabilities, investment opportunities, and cultural diversity.

Over 150 senior government officials and heads of public institutions participated, reflecting strong institutional engagement in shaping a cohesive, data-driven, and globally competitive export framework to achieve medium-term export targets and drive sustained economic growth.
