SLCPI Contributes Rs. 50 Million to Rebuilding Sri Lanka Fund

The Sri Lanka Chamber of the Pharmaceutical Industry (SLCPI) has donated Rs. 50 million to the Government’s ‘Rebuilding Sri Lanka’ Fund, established to support national recovery efforts following the recent disaster.

The donation was formally handed over by the SLCPI Executive Committee to the Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, at the Ministry of Health and Mass Media. The delegation was led by SLCPI President Shantha Bandara, Executive Director of Sunshine Healthcare Lanka, along with Past President Myilvaganam Prathahaban, Vice Presidents Nishantha Weerasinghe and Dr. Mahesha Ranasoma, and Secretary Ivin Jesumani.

SLCPI said the contribution is aimed at strengthening health services and supporting the reconstruction of essential infrastructure affected by the disaster. The funds will also assist the Ministry’s disaster management initiatives and help ensure the uninterrupted delivery of critical public services, including healthcare, during the recovery phase.

Addressing the occasion, Shantha Bandara said Sri Lanka’s recovery depends on maintaining essential services while rebuilding damaged systems. He noted that the contribution reflects a collective commitment by the pharmaceutical industry to support immediate disaster response efforts and long-term resilience within the health sector.

Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa expressed appreciation for the contribution, stating that support from industry bodies plays a vital role in sustaining healthcare services during periods of national challenge and strengthening service delivery as recovery progresses.

SLCPI represents more than 70 member companies across importing, manufacturing, distribution, and retailing, accounting for over 80 percent of Sri Lanka’s private pharmaceutical market. The industry employs over 80,000 people directly and supports nearly 400,000 indirectly, making it a key contributor to both the national economy and healthcare system.
