Sri Lanka Seeks China’s Aid for Cyclone-Damaged Rails

Sri Lanka has sought assistance from China to repair railway tracks and bridges damaged by Cyclone Ditwah, during a discussion between Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath and Chinese Ambassador Qi Zhenhong in Colombo.

According to the Foreign Minister’s media unit, Ambassador Qi assured that he would immediately convey Sri Lanka’s request to the Chinese government. He also noted that China would assess the wider damage caused by the cyclone and communicate the type of support that could be provided.

During the meeting, Minister Herath further requested China to consider providing a grant to establish a network of electric vehicle charging stations across the country. Chinese electric vehicle brands currently dominate Sri Lanka’s EV market.

Building collapse in Wellawatta injures several people

At least 20?people were injured when a building in Wellawatta collapsed today, the police said. The injured were admitted to the Kalubowila hospital. The five storied building which was partly under construction is located near the Savoy cinema in?Wellawatta. The Army and Air Force was sent to the area to assist the fire brigade and police in the rescue operations. Several vehicles were also damaged in the incident. (Colombo Gazette)
