Blood Donations Temporarily Halted at Narahenpita Blood Bank Due to Overcrowding

The National Blood Bank has temporarily halted blood donations at its Narahenpita centre due to overcrowding, officials confirmed.

Authorities stated that the large number of donors currently at the site will require time until at least 10 pm to complete the donation process. Consequently, the public is advised not to visit the centre today.

The surge in donor turnout comes in response to an urgent appeal issued yesterday by the National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS), which highlighted a critical shortage of blood supplies amid the ongoing disaster situation.

The Narahenpita blood bank normally operates daily from 8 am to 6:30 pm.

Curfew re-imposed, all Kandy school matches postponed

A curfew has been?re-imposed in Kandy from 6pm today to 6am tomorrow, the Police said. The tensions in the Kandy area eased this morning resulting in the Police deciding to lift the curfew at 10 this morning. However the Police said the curfew has been re-imposed at 6pm this evening. Meanwhile all school cricket ‘big match’ games in Kandy have been postponed owing to the prevailing security situation in Kandy. (Colombo Gazette)

PM says those who used social media to spread hate questioned

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says the Police are questioning a few people who had used social media to spread hate among communities. In a special statement today, the Prime Minister said that the Kandy situation escalated as a result of a hate campaign carried out on social media.
