An Emirates Airbus A380, one of the world's largest commercial aircraft, executed an unscheduled landing at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake late yesterday evening (20).

The flight, EK-434, was traveling from Dubai to Brisbane, Australia, when it was forced to divert following a sudden medical emergency involving one of the passengers onboard.

Reports indicate the aircraft touched down at BIA at approximately 7:15 p.m. The ailing passenger was immediately disembarked and transported to a local hospital to receive necessary medical treatment.

After the situation was addressed, the large wide-body airliner resumed its journey, departing for its final destination in Brisbane at around 9:20 p.m.
