Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe arrested

Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) over allegations he misused Government funds to travel to London to attend a private function.

The former President appeared before the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and was questioned over the allegations.

He was later arrested and taken to court to be produced before a Magistrate.

Wickremesinghe was accused of misusing Government funds to travel to London to attend a graduation ceremony of his wife, Professor Maithree Wickremesinghe in 2023 when he was President.

His arrest came hours after a YouTube host “predicted” that Wickremesinghe will be arrested.

Record 437,878 people vaccinated in a single day

A record 437,878 people were vaccinated in a single day in Sri Lanka, the highest number of people to receive the jab in one day. The Health Ministry said that the record number of jabs were administered around the island yesterday (Monday).
