Eight Indian fishermen detained for poaching in Sri Lanka

Eight Indian fishermen have been detained for poaching in Sri Lankan waters on Sunday.

The Sri Lanka Navy said that an Indian fishing boat was seized and 08 fishermen were arrested during a special search operation conducted early on Sunday, north of Mannar.

The North Central Naval Command spotted a group of Indian fishing boats engaging in illegal fishing in Sri Lankan waters north of Mannar.

In response, the North Central Naval Command deployed its Inshore Patrol Craft to drive away the Indian fishing boats.

The compliant boarding made by naval personnel resulted in Indian boat being seized and 08 Indian fishermen arrested.

The boat and the fishermen were brought to the Talpadu Pier in Mannar and were handed over to the Fisheries Inspector of Mannar for legal proceedings.
