Sri Lanka gives greenlight for FAO research vessel

Sri Lanka has granted clearance for the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) research vessel to conduct research engagements in Sri Lanka in August.

The Sri Lanka Foreign Ministry said the vessel has been given clearance for research engagements from August 15-20.

Equipped with the most recent technology, its mission is to generate scientific knowledge about marine resources and ecosystems that can be used to support science-based decisions for the sustainable management of the ocean.

The UN said the vessel is equipped to support Sri Lanka in the sustainable management of marine ecosystems and aquatic resources, in line with the request expressed by the Sri Lankan government.

The F. Nansen’s visit to Sri Lanka is organized through a partnership between the FAO and the national government, sailing under the United Nations flag.
