Several opposition MPs walk out of Parliament in protest

Several opposition MPs walked out of Parliament in protest against Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickremeratne, after he refused to allow Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa to make an additional statement in Parliament.

Premadasa sought the approval of the Speaker to make a brief statement but the Speaker refused to give time.

This led to an uproar in Parliament with the Opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya and the Speaker exchanging words.

Premadasa was later given time to make the special statement, which was related to the war between Israel and Iran.

However, Premadasa accused the Speaker of being biased saying he gives extra time for Government MPs to speak but not for the opposition.

A number of opposition MPs then walked out of Parliament in protest.

SLFP makes key changes during Central Committee meeting

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) made some key changes to positions in the party when the SLFP Central Committee met today. Among the changes made was the removal of S. B. Dissanayake as Treasurer. He was replaced by MP Lasantha Alagiyawanna while MP Weerakumara Dissanayake was appointed as the new SLFP Spokesperson replacing MP Mahinda Samarasinghe. NTJ, JMI activists arrested in Ampara

Two activists of the National Thowheed Jama?ath (NTJ) and Jama?athe Milla?athe Ibrahim (JMI) have been arrested in Ampara, the Police said. The Police said that the suspects were arrested based on information provided by the State Intelligence Service (SIS). The two suspects had reportedly received training at camps operated in Nuwara Eliya and Hambantota by the mastermind of the Easter Sunday attacks, Zahran Hashim.
