Speaker refuses to allow Minister Samarasinghe to speak

Speaker Dr.?Jagath?Wickremeratne refused to allow Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe to speak during a heated exchange which took place between opposition and ruling party MPs in Parliament.

The Speaker ordered the Minister to sit down, a rare instance that the Speaker had flexed his muscles against his own party members.

A heated exchange took place when opposition MPs demanded time to respond to comments made by Government MPs.

The Speaker said there was no point-of-order and refused to allow the opposition MPs to speak.

During the heated exchange, Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe attempted to make a comment but the Speaker ordered him to sit down.

He told the Minister there was no point-of-order and ordered the Minister to sit down.
