Two Sri Lankans have been detained in Kosovo over human smuggling.
The Kosovo Police said that the Sri Lankans were detained in the village of P?rlepnic?, Gjilan, on Friday.
“A driver of the vehicle, having noticed that the police unit had spotted him and intended to stop him, increased speed and attempted to flee. At a distance from there, he abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Two male persons without documents were encountered near the vehicle. During the conversation with them, the same persons stated that they were citizens of Sri Lanka and had entered the Republic of Kosovo from Serbia with that vehicle,” Kosovo media reported.
During the verification of the vehicle, it turned out that it belongs to a male person from Serbia.
In consultation with the prosecutor, the vehicle was seized, while the Migration Unit was notified of the foreign citizens, who were issued a decision for a two-week stay in the Republic of Kosovo and were then released.
The case is under investigation. (Telegraph)
