Pakistan says it continues to maintain close ties with Sri Lanka

Pakistan says it continues to maintain a close relationship with Sri Lanka based on mutual respect and trust.

The High Commissioner of Pakistan to Sri Lanka, Major General (R) Faheem-ul-Aziz HI (M), said that the strength of the Pakistan ? Sri Lanka relationship lies in diversified engagement in many fields such as trade, defense, science, culture, and education.

He also extended sincere greetings and best wishes on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan to the government and people of Sri Lanka.

The High Commission of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Pakistani community based in Sri Lanka celebrated the 85^th National Day of Pakistan with traditional favour and resolve to make Pakistan a strong, vibrant, progressive, democratic and welfare state.

A National Day Reception was held at Cinnamon Grand, Colombo which was attended by a large number of participants including Sri Lankan political leadership, Diplomatic Corps, Senior Defense Officials, Government Representatives, Prominent Business personalities and Pakistani Diaspora.

In his remarks, the Chief Guest of the event, Sri Lankan Minister of Labour. Anil Jayantha Fernando expressed satisfaction at the trajectory of bilateral relations while identifying the areas of ongoing cooperation between the two countries.

The Minister also shed light on the centuries-old relationship dating back to the golden era of Gandhara and Buddhism between the people of the two countries. (Colombo Gazette)

Dates not yet fixed for GR’s China visit

Twelve students arrested over Colombo University assault remanded

Twelve students arrested over an assault incident at the Colombo University have been remanded till 13 January (Monday). The 12 students were arrested after a heated exchange in the university canteen led to one student being assaulted. A video of the incident which has gone viral on social media shows one boy being assaulted by a group of students. The Cinnamon Gardens Police said that the student who was assaulted was admitted to hospital. (Colombo Gazette)
