Former terrorists Karuna and Pillayan join hands

Former terrorists and one time bitter rivals Karuna Amman and Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, alias Pillayan, have joined hands to face the upcoming Local Government Elections.

Addressing reporters at a joint media conference on Saturday, Pillayan said that they had decided to put aside their differences and work together.

He recalled that the Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pullikal was formed by Karuna Amman to fight against the LTTE.

Pillayan said that following the defeat of the LTTE there were some differences between him and Karuna Amman.

However he said that they have now decided to put aside their differences in the best interest of the people in the North and East.

Karuna Amman praised the role played by Pillayan as a former Chief Minister of the Eastern Province.

He claimed that Pillayan had done more for the people than C.V Wigneswaran did as Chief Minister for the Northern Province. (Colombo Gazette)

Sudden disruption to power supply in multiple areas

A sudden disruption to the power supply was reported in multiple areas late this evening. The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) said that power cuts were reported from a number of areas including Nugegoda, Maharagama, Malabe, Wattala, Mount Lavinia and Ratmalana.
