Suspect involved in sexual assault at Anuradhapura hospital arrested

The suspect involved in a sexual assault of a doctor at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital has been arrested.

The 34-year-old suspect was arrested by the Galnewa Police.

A huge uproar had erupted in Sri Lanka after the female doctor was sexually assaulted at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.

Doctors at the hospital launched a strike on Tuesday demanding the arrest of the suspect, believed to be an army deserter.

He had entered the dormitory for medical officers when the female doctor had returned from work and threatened her with a knife and sexually assaulted her.

Special Police teams had been deployed to arrest the suspect. (Colombo Gazette)

Committee studying PTA in repeal process

Indian fishermen at Jaffna prison stage fast

Indian fishermen held at the Jaffna prison staged a fast today in protest over their detention, the Jaffna media reported. At least 51 Indian fishermen launched the fast this morning demanding that they be released immediately. The 51 Indian fishermen had been arrested for poaching in Sri Lankan waters.
