Criminal probe over plot to disrupt fuel distribution

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has launched an investigation into an alleged attempt to disrupt fuel distribution in Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lanka Police said the investigation was launched following a complaint that was lodged with the Police.
According to the Police, a complaint was lodged claiming there was an attempt to disrupt fuel distribution in the country.
The Government, on Saturday, reiterated that there was no fuel shortage in Sri Lanka and there was no need for panic buying.
Fuel distributors had earlier warmed that they will suspend fuel distribution over moves to abolish the 3% discount currently offered to distributors by the CPC.
Leader of the House Bimal Ratnayake told Parliament that the Government is standing by its decision to abolish the 3% discount currently offered to distributors in the best interest of the public.
He said that the Government will also follow a court order issued in this regard.
The Minister said that the public had been falsely misled over the availability of fuel in the country. (Colombo Gazette)
