Mahinda busted the most amount of money on overseas trips

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa busted the most amount of money on overseas visits when he was President between 2010 and 2014.

Prime Minister, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya told Parliament that Rajapaksa spent Rs 3,572 million on overseas trips.

She also revealed that former President Ranil Wickremesinghe spent Rs 533 million on overseas visits between 2023?2024 when he was President.

The Prime Minister said that Maithripala Sirisena (2015?2019) spent Rs 384 million and Gotabaya Rajapaksa (2020?2022) spent Rs 126 million.

She also said that incumbent President Anura Kumara Dissanayake spent Rs 1.8 million on overseas visits from between September 2024 to February 2025.

The Prime Minister said the Government was looking to cut costs and change the political culture in the country.

Dr. Harini Amarasuriya noted that on some overseas visits undertaken by former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, a number of opposition MPs had accompanied him, resulting in higher travel costs. (Colombo Gazette)
