Two suspects arrested over Kotahena murder killed by cops

Two suspects arrested over a murder in Kotahena, Colombo, and seen alive in a video shared on social media, have been shot dead by the Police in what they claim was retaliatory fire in self-defence.
The Police said that the two suspects had been arrested with a weapon after they shot dead a man at a store in Kotahena.
The suspects were arrested by the Police when they were fleeing the scene of the crime on a motorcycle.
A video later shared widely on social media showed the suspects being held by the Police on the street soon after the arrest.
Police Spokesperson SSP Buddhika Manathunga said that the suspects were taken to a location where they claimed weapons were kept hidden.
According to the Police Spokesperson, the suspects had grabbed a weapon of a policeman and attempted to open fire on the Police.
The Police Spokesperson said that the Police had opened fire in self-defence injuring the two suspects.
The two suspects succumbed to their injuries in hospital.
The Police Spokesperson said that a policeman also sustained injuries in the incident.
The narrative of suspects being killed after being arrested and taken to a location where they allegedly had weapons hidden, has been mentioned by the Police on numerous occasions in the past raising suspicion over the actual circumstances that led to the deaths. (Colombo Gazette)
