Notorious criminal assassinated inside court in Colombo

A notorious criminal was assassinated inside the court premises in Colombo by a gunman dressed as a lawyer.

Ganemulla Sanjeewa was escorted to court under tight security by Police Special Task Force (STF) officers.

The Police said that the gunman dressed as a lawyer, had smuggled the weapon in a law book into the Aluthkade Courts Complex.

He had shot Ganemulla Sanjeewa and fled the scene.

The Police and STF took Sanjeewa to hospital in a jeep but was pronounced dead.

The weapon used in the crime was recovered inside the court. (Colombo Gazette)

Several coronavirus patients detected in parts of Colombo

Several coronavirus patients were detected in parts of Colombo over a 24-hour period ending at 6am today. Officials said that 445 coronavirus patients were detected in the Colombo District during this period. Of them, 175 were from Colombo 15 (Mattakuliya), 49 from Dematagoda, 36 from Slave Island, 32 from Wellawatta and 35 from Maradana.
