Lalkantha remanded over drunk driving accident

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) politburo member K.D. Lalkantha was ordered to be remanded today till March 14 over a drunk driving accident. He was arrested yesterday over a road accident after he had allegedly been driving under the influence of liquor. The Police said that Lalkantha was arrested in Anuradhapura following the accident and produced before a Magistrate today. The Magistrate ordered that he be remanded till March 14. (Colombo Gazette)

Police arrest 34 boys for damaging property at girl’s school

The Police have arrested 34 boys for damaging property at a girl’s school in Colombo. The boys had forced their way into the school while parading the streets as part of the school ‘Big Match’ cricket season. The Police said that the boys had damaged school property and fled when the Police had arrived. A complaint had been made by girl’s school resulting in the Police arresting the boys. They were to handed over to their parents after recording statements. (Colombo Gazette)
