President meets popular Sri Lankan band at BIA

President Anura Kumara Disanayake ran into the popular Sri Lankan band Jayasri, at the Bandaranaike International Airport when he returned to the country from Dubai.

The President briefly spoke to the musicians before greeting others at the airport.

The President returned from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after participating in the World Governments Summit 2025.

During the visit, he held bilateral discussions with President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and also engaged in discussions with several top executives of leading global companies in the fields of information technology (IT), artificial intelligence (AI), energy, tourism, finance, and media to attract investments to Sri Lanka.

Coinciding with the three-day visit, an Investment Protection and Promotion Agreement was signed between the Ministry of Finance of the United Arab Emirates and Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)

Two MSD officers arrested over shooting incident

Two Ministerial Security Division (MSD) Police Constables attached to Parliamentarian S. B. Dissanayake’s security unit have been arrested over the ahooting incident last night. The Police said that two pistols were also seized. Two people were injured in the shooting incident at Ginigathhena last night.

Accused sentenced to death over murder

A man found guilty of killing his wife and two children in 2012 has been sentanced to death. The children aged three and one month were killed in Ratmalana and the bodies were later burnt. The Colombo High Court sentenced the convict to death when the case was heard today.
