Government unaware if USAID funds used to topple past administrations

The Sri Lankan Government says it is unaware if USAID funds were used to topple past administrations.

Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said that various claims are being made and some unverified name lists have also been shared on social media.

He said that only USAID and the US Government will be able to confirm if the claims are true or not.

The Trump administration has also slammed USAID for spending $7.9 million to teach Sri Lankan?journalists how to avoid ?binary-gendered language?.

This was one of several projects the Trump administration has questioned through the official Rapid Response social media account of the White House.

The USAID funded program that aims to advance media ethics in??Sri Lanka, was launched to teach journalists how to actively state their gender pronouns and to avoid ?binary-gendered language.?

USAID helped launch the project in Sri Lanka in August 2017, with a total projected cost of $7.9 million. (Colombo Gazette)

Venezuelan arrested after swallowing cocaine at airport

SLFP wants to lose racist image given to the party

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) says it wants to lose the racist image?given to the party by some of its members in recent times. SLFP member and Fisheries Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said that one group in the SLFP is still giving a?racist image to the party. He said that the comments being made by that group on the decision taken to sing the National anthem in Tamil has shown that the SLFP cannot move forward with their support. “We need to take this party on the correct path,” he said.
