Deputy Speaker berates Sajith and Archchuna over insulting remarks

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Rizvie Salih accused Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and MP Archchuna Ramanathan of insulting the Chair through remarks they had made.
A heated exchange took place between the Government and Opposition after Premadasa told the Deputy Speaker not to interrupt him when he was speaking.
Leader of the House Bimal Ratnayake objected to the remarks made by the Leader of the Opposition on Thursday and MP Archchuna Ramanathan on Wednesday where he had used the word “shame” on the Speaker.
Ratnayake said that such behavior will not be entertained in Parliament.
Deputy Speaker of Parliament Rizvie Salih said that those remarks were an insult to the Chair.
He also warned MP Archchuna Ramanathan that he will be removed from Parliament if he continues to behave in such a manner.
The Deputy Speaker told the Leader of the Opposition he was shocked that Premadasa used such a word.
Premadasa said that if the Deputy Speaker felt that the word should not have been used then he will withdraw it. (Colombo Gazette)
