The Government is considering offering former President Mahinda Rajapaksa a different house, Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said.
He said that the Government is looking for a suitable house for Rajapaksa and his wife to move into from the house in Wijerama, Colombo.
Jayatissa said that Rajapaksa knows he must leave the house but is refusing to do so.
Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam had recently said that Rajapaksa is ready to vacate the house given by the Government in Colombo, if asked to do so in writing.
He said that while the Government has been saying in public that Rajapaksa must leave the house, nothing has been communicated in writing.
Jayatissa told reporters on Wednesday that if Rajapaksa is waiting for a written document then he knows he must leave.
The Minister also recalled a previous court order which states that the former President should not occupy the house at Wijerama, in Colombo. (Colombo Gazette)
