Trump administration looks to increase trade with Sri Lanka

The Donald Trump administration is looking to increase trade and investment with Sri Lanka, the new US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said.

On behalf of the United States of America, Secretary of State Marco Rubio congratulated the people of Sri Lanka as they celebrated their nation?s independence on February 4.

“In the 77 years since Sri Lanka claimed its independence, our countries have developed a strong and mutually beneficial partnership built on the cornerstone of our people-to-people ties and shared democratic values,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio said.

He said that in the year ahead the US looks forward to increasing trade and investment between both countries and strengthening its security cooperation to advance stability and prosperity throughout the Indo-Pacific region. (Colombo Gazette)

Suspect arrested for killing daughter’s unborn child

By Farook Sihan A suspect has been arrested in Samanthurai for killing his daughter’s unborn child. The man had reportedly killed the fetus and dumped it into the river. The 41-year-old suspect was arrested following investigations conducted by the Samanthurai Police. The fetus was recovered following a search operation conducted by the Police and military in the area. The man had impregnated his 16-year-old daughter and killed the unborn child. AG to decide on case against Basil on 11th November

The Attorney General (AG) is to decide on the case against Minister Basil Rajapaksa over the alleged misappropriation of funds, on 11th November.? The AG informed the Colombo High Court today that the decision on whether or not to proceed with the 2015 case will be conveyed to the court on November 11.
