Yoshitha Rajapaksa arrested over money laundering

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s son Yoshitha Rajapaksa was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on money laundering charges.

Yoshitha Rajapaksa was arrested in Beliatta, the Police media unit said.

He was arrested on the advice of the Attorney General after it was determined that there was sufficient evidence to charge Rajapaksa under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act No. 5 of 2006.

Yoshitha Rajapaksa had recently appeared before the CID to record a statement over the ownership of land in Kataragama.

The CID had also earlier recorded a statement from Major Neville Wanniarachchi, the former personal security officer of Mahinda Rajapaksa in relation to the investigation. (Colombo?Gazette)
