UDA looking at proposals as Pettah floating market makes losses

The Urban Development Authority (UDA) is looking at a number of proposals as the Pettah floating market continues to make huge losses, the Government said.

Minister of Urban Development, Construction and Housing Anura Karunathilake told Parliament that the traders and the UDA were not making profits but only losses.

He said that despite the media show by previous governments, the Pettah floating market project was making losses.

The Minister said that a number of proposes are now being looked at to make the project profitable.

The fully-renovated Pettah Floating Market was opened in 2021 as part of the Government?s program to develop the Pettah area as a commercial centre, a historic city, and a commercial city.

The work was undertaken on the instructions of then President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa who was also the Minister of Urban Development and Housing. (Colombo Gazette)

ID number system to be strictly enforced

The identification number (ID) system, which comes into effect from today, will be strictly enforced, the Police said. Police Spokesman, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ajith Rohana said that only people going to work can leave their homes today.
