Disciplinary action against cops over abduction of teen in Kandy

Disciplinary action has been taken against a Chief Inspector and two other Police officers over the recent abduction of a teen in Kandy.

The Sri Lanka Police said that a Chief Inspector had been suspended and two other officers have been transferred over allegations they failed to exercise their duties when the girl was abducted.

The Chief Inspector was serving as the Acting Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Davulagala Police Station at the time of the incident.

According to reports, a policeman from the Gampola Police had seen the abduction taking place and reported it to the Davulagala Police but no action was taken at the time.

The 18-year-old girl was abducted in broad daylight on the street in Gelioya, Kandy and was found in Ampara two days later.

The main suspect was arrested while he was attempting to take the girl back to Kandy from Ampara.

The father of the girl said that the main suspect, a relative of the girl, had been arrested following a Police operation where the calls of the suspect were traced. (Colombo Gazette)
