Tamils in North and East commemorate war dead

Tamils in the North and East of Sri Lanka commemorated the victims of the 30-year war on ‘Maaveerar’ day, Wednesday.?

The new Government had said it will allow commemorations to be held provided the LTTE is not glorified in any manner.

Families of the victims of the war and Tamil politicians gathered at public places to commemorate the dead.

Thousands were killed during the brutal war between the military and the LTTE.

Nearly 30,000 – 40,000 people were believed to have been killed during the final stages of the war but the actual numbers have been disputed. (Colombo Gazette)
