Speaker to conduct inquiry into conduct of Jaffna MP

Parliament Speaker Dr. Ashoka Ranwala is to call for an inquiry into the conduct of Jaffna MP Dr. Archchuna Ramanathan on the first day of the new Parliament.

The new MP create a form of entertainment on the first day of the new Parliament by refusing to vacate a seat allocated for the Leader of the Opposition.

Ramanathan was broadcasting live using his mobile phone from inside the House before the sessions began.

During the broadcast on his Facebook Page, Parliament staff requested the new MP to move to another seat as he was seated on the chair traditionally kept for the Leader of the Opposition.

However, the new MP refused to move saying the seat was not marked for Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa.

The MP asked the Parliament staff to show him where it says the seat was for the Leader of the Opposition.

He noted that all the new MPs were told that there was no specific seat allocated on the first day of the new Parliament.

The new MP said that traditions had now been changed so Premadasa can sit elsewhere. (Colombo?Gazette)

Ranil?s convoy attacked in Balapitiya

The convoy of UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe was attacked in Balapitiya this evening, party sources said. Wickremesinghe had gone to visit the families of the fishermen killed during the storm over the weekend when it came under attack. Sri Lanka not safe from hackers

Sri Lanka is vulnerable to computer hackers, according to a leading computer anti-virus company. A Bloomberg report said that Kaspersky’s list of countries with the highest percentage of computer attacks has Sri Lanka ranked at number 8 ahead of India and the Maldives. The security company found that 51 percent of its users in Sri Lanka faced online assaults. About 15 percent of Sri Lanka’s population, or an estimated 3.2 million people, were online last year, according to Internet World Stats.
