Verit? Research says the National People’s Power (NPP) has secured a two-third majority in Parliament, based on the results in so far.
Nishan de Mel, the Executive Director of Verit? Research says with 75% of the vote counted at 7.37am Sri Lanka time, the NPP had 130 seats in Parliament and Verit? Research counts a two-third majority for NPP — even if remaining vote share is no more than at presidential election.
The NPP has swept the polls in most districts and is heading for a huge win at the 2024 Parliament Election.
This will be the first time the NPP will govern Sri Lanka.
The victory for the NPP will also see the Samagi Jana Balawegaya and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna losing a majority of its seats in Parliament. (Colombo Gazette)
