No place in new Parliament for Kanchana, Amaraweera and Shasheendra

Former Ministers Kanchana Wijesekera, Mahinda Amaraweera and Shasheendra Rajapaksa have failed to secure seats in the new Parliament.

A relative of the Rajapaksa family, Nipuna Ranawaka, has also been defeated at the 2024 Parliament election while?Daham Sirisena, son of former President Maithripala Sirisena, also failed to secure a seat in the new Parliament.

Kanchana Wijesekera was the Minister of Power and Energy under the Ranil Wickremesinghe administration and contested under the gas cylinder symbol of the New Democratic Front.

The United Nations (UN) has assured support for the most vulnerable and food insecure households with severely malnourished children in Sri Lanka. Boat with over 100 Rohingya migrants detained in Sri Lanka

A boat carrying over 100 Rohingya illegal migrants has been detained in Sri Lankan waters. The boat was reportedly heading to a foreign county when it drifted into Sri Lankan waters. The boat was detected in the northern waters by local fishermen. The fishermen had alerted the Sri Lanka Navy who rushed to the area and detained the boat. (Colombo Gazette)
